Stressing over baggage fees and carry-on weight restrictions is not exactly the most fun way to kick off a trip. Most of us have been there - wondering if we can pack light enough to avoid extra fees or frantically researching our airline's carry-on restrictions before packing. Luckily, a few luggage brands offer lightweight bags to help ease some of that stress. It Luggage is one of those brands offering ultra-lightweight suitcases in plenty of styles and designs.

But what is It Luggage? And is it a good brand that’s worth your money? I decided to look at It Luggage and find out if it’s a brand worth considering for your next luggage purchase. Let’s find out!

What is It Luggage?

It Luggage, known for its lightweight suitcase options, was founded in 1985. What started as Landor International back then was rebranded to It Luggage (It stands for International Traveler) in 2012. The brand’s founding principles of design, innovation, quality, and value remain consistent and prevalent. Over the years, the UK-based brand has evolved and focused on designing solutions to customers’ travel bag problems.

Their website states they were the
first to introduce expandable hard-side suitcases, solving a problem for many travelers who need extra space but prefer hard-side bags. In addition to making some of the lightest suitcases on the market, It Luggage designed their bags with wheels that offset the center of gravity, helpful when you’ve packed heavy items towards the top or front of the bag. They even have an email where customers can send suggestions to improve future suitcases!

It Luggage is available to purchase in over forty countries and at online retailers like Amazon and the brand’s website. The brand is well-known throughout Europe for its lightweight design at an affordable price.

The brand is focused on core ethical principles with its customers and suppliers, ensuring that their products are ethically sourced throughout their supply chain.

It Luggage Features

Lightweight

It Luggage is known for its ultra-lightweight suitcase options. They even have a “World’s Lightest" collection, with luggage options that weigh less than most of my backpacks! It Luggage uses lightweight polyester and a fiberglass frame to keep the weight low for this line. The materials used are thinner than other luggage brands (to keep the bags so lightweight), so keep this in mind, as polyester may be more susceptible to tear with frequent use.

The carry-on bag weighs only 1.85kg (or about 4 lbs), and the medium checked bag weighs 2.05 kg (or about 4.5 lbs). In my research, I haven’t found another luggage brand that offers carry-on or checked bags this lightweight. This brand is perfect for travelers who want to maximize the number of clothes and other travel items they bring.

Wide Handles

The wide handles are a unique design feature of It Luggage. In their “World’s Lightest” collection, the suitcases have their top handles designed so that they are wider and, when not expanded for use, are neatly stored in the corners of the suitcase. This saves space on the bag's interior and provides you with a flat and even base to help you pack efficiently in the bag's main compartment.

Dual Spinner Wheels

While most suitcases these days come with four 360-degree spinner wheels, It Luggage takes it to the next level by offering four dual-spinner wheels on its bags. Having eight wheels instead of the usual four is so helpful regarding durability and stability when rolling your (probably heavily packed) luggage. The eight wheels create a durable base and help your bag roll much smoother.

TSA Approved Locks

While the luggage in the “World’s Lightest” collection does not have TSA-approved locks, many other bags It Luggage offers come with this helpful security feature. Most of It Luggage’s hard-side cases come with locks, and a few soft-side bags also include TSA locks.

I think TSA-approved locks are great on any travel bag, as they give you peace of mind that your things are secured while traveling! The
Lineal Hardside Spinner is a perfect option for travelers looking for a new bag with TSA-approved locks.

It Luggage World's Lightest

It Luggage is known worldwide for offering some of the lightest luggage options, evidenced by its collection dubbed the “World’s Lightest". The collection has three suitcase sizes to choose from: cabin (carry-on), medium (checked), and large (checked).

The collection is made with a tough and durable fiberglass frame, which is strong enough to protect your luggage from damage but more lightweight than other materials used by competitors. Each bag in this collection comes with zippered pockets on the exterior front panel for additional storage and a zippered mesh pocket on the interior for easy organization.

The World’s Lightest suitcases are designed with extra wide retractable top handles, stowed away safely in the outer corners of the suitcase when not in use, providing a pipe-free design on the bag's interior. This is extremely helpful as it increases packing space by providing a smooth interior.

It Luggage Hard Shell

The Lineal Hardside Expandable Checked Spinner is a sleek and stylish option for anyone looking for a new hard-shell checked bag. While this bag, at 12.59 pounds, can’t compare to the World’s Lightest collection in terms of weight, this is a thoughtfully designed piece of luggage that is perfect for longer trips.

The clamshell opening of this luggage makes it easy to lay flat while you pack (or unpack) your things. Its expandable design gives you an additional 25% packing space when using the expansion zippers in the middle of the bag. What I really like about this bag is the reinforced corners - they provide extra protection while your bag is in transit but don’t take away from the sleek style.

A TSA-approved lock ensures your belongings stay safe throughout your trip, and as with other It Luggage options, this bag also is fitted with eight wheels instead of four to provide stability while maneuvering.

It Luggage Soft Shell

The Beach Stripes Softside Carry-On Spinner is another lightweight option by It Luggage. This soft shell bag weighs only 5.18 pounds, so while it is not the lightest carry-on option available, it’s still a good option, especially for the price ($79)!

The bag’s lightweight design can be attributed to the use of aluminum tubes for its retractable handle. Two zippered pockets on the front exterior of the bag give you options for storing your smaller travel necessities. The interior has compression straps and a mesh pocket for smaller, lightweight items. As the suitcase has one deep main compartment, this makes it easy to organize your items and add in any
packing cubes for more efficient packing and organization.

The striped design of this bag is cute and fun for any traveler; I especially like the black/gray option! The tan leather-look trim adds a nice touch of style to the bag. The suitcase is available in two other color combinations: blue/pink and teal.

It Luggage Return Policy & Warranty

It Luggage’s return policy has a 28-day money-back guarantee for any luggage purchased. The caveat is that the bags must be unused and returned in their original packaging. This means you can’t try the luggage out in the real world and then return it, which is a pretty standard practice among luggage brands. I’ve been hard-pressed to find a luggage brand that allows you to use and abuse the luggage (for whatever amount of time) and then return it with no questions asked.

A 10-year manufacturer’s warranty backs the brand’s luggage. If there is any damage to your luggage within the ten-year timeframe, It Luggage will attempt to repair it, provide replacement parts, or provide you with replacement luggage. The warranty covers any defects in materials or workmanship but not damage from normal wear and tear, cosmetic damages, accidents/abuse, or mishandling from third parties (like airlines). Reviews I’ve read on It Luggage’s warranty and customer service suggest that the brand does an excellent job at resolving any issues and offering repairs or replacements. Just be sure to keep your proof of purchase!

It Luggage Trustpilot Review

It Luggage has one of the most impressive Trustpilot ratings and reviews that I have seen among the luggage brands I’ve reviewed to date. Reviewers gave the brand 4.4 out of 5 stars on Trustpilot, corresponding to an “Excellent” distinction by the review site. I am blown away by the statistics of It Luggage - the brand has a claimed and verified profile, asks for positive or negative reviews, replies to negative reviews in less than a week (on average), and has responded to 73% of negative reviews.

Over 2,900 customers have reviewed the brand. 90% of those reviewers gave It Luggage a five-star rating, while only about 6% rated the brand at three stars or less. As I read through the reviews, the overwhelming majority of customers gave It Luggage a glowing rating and applauded the brand’s customer service.

Final Thoughts on It Luggage

It Luggage provides lightweight luggage at an affordable cost. With several style options and collections to choose from, there are bags to suit various tastes. It Luggage does have some of the world’s most lightweight luggage, and at the low prices, it should be noted that customers can’t expect the brand to perform as well in the long run as luxury luggage brands.

With that said, I was thoroughly impressed with all the five-star customer reviews on Trustpilot. Many of the reviews applauded the brand’s customer service and the durability of the bags, so I would not skip on this brand over fear of quality issues in the future, especially if you only take a few trips a year.

While other brands like
Tumi and Samsonite have luggage with higher quality, durable materials that last decades, It Luggage is a fantastic choice for less frequent travelers who only take three to four trips a year. The unbelievably low prices are great for anyone trying to stick to a budget for their travel gear (think of all the fun things you can do on your trips with that extra cash)!

FAQs

  • Where is It Luggage made?

It Luggage is designed in the UK but manufactured in China and Vietnam.
