For those travelers aiming to support brands who care about the environment, Samsonite seems to fit the bill with their sustainability initiatives. 

Samsonite’s social compliance program was put in place to ensure their entire supply chain reflects Samsonite’s values as a company. Human trafficking, child labor, and forced labor are all social issues that are prevalent in the world today, but through this program, Samsonite ensures its supply chain (and themselves) follow all local laws to prevent these issues from occurring. Additionally, Samsonite’s unannounced on-site audits of suppliers keep their entire supply chain accountable to following Samsonite’s standards for social compliance.

Samsonite Luggage Warranty

Samsonite offers limited three and ten year global warranties on their products. The warranty covers manufacturing defects in material or workmanship only - meaning if you have normal wear and tear or if your bag is damaged at the airport (looking at you, baggage handlers), Samsonite will not cover it. This seems to be the standard with many suitcase brands, however I have seen some newer luggage brands offering better coverage in their warranties than Samsonite.

I personally always travel with a backpack, regardless if I have a carry-on suitcase or checked luggage. The Xenon 3.0 comes in three sizes (small, medium and large) and all three options have a sleek design that will be the perfect addition to your travel product collection. The backpack features a small Samsonite logo on the front, so this backpack keeps you looking stylish if you have other Samsonite bags!

This backpack is made from a durable ballistic nylon fabric which is both water and oil resistant. The three storage compartments give you plenty of space to pack and organize your travel essentials, with the compartment nearest to the straps offering storage for your laptop (up to 15.6 inches). The zippers feel strong and sturdy, even with frequent zipping and unzipping. The straps are fairly comfortable and the lumbar support offered by this backpack makes it very comfortable to wear for hours. The Xenon 3.0 offers plenty of storage space and makes for a good carry-on option, or even a backpack that you can use daily for commuting to the office. Stylish? Multiple uses? Comfortable? Check, check, and check!

One of my favorite features of this backpack is the smart sleeve, which allows you to easily rest the backpack on your carry-on or checked luggage! Backpacks with this feature always are a win in my book - wearing a heavy backpack, especially when it's hot outside, is torture for me, so the smart sleeve is an awesome option on any travel backpack.

The luggage brand has several Instagram accounts, used for sharing content related to new luggage lines, developments within the company, and sharing tagged photos and videos from its followers. I looked at two of Samsonite’s accounts - @samsoniteusa and @mysamsonite to see what the brand has been up to on social media. 

@mysamsonite has over 209,000 followers and implores its customers to use the hashtag #mysamsonite for a chance to be featured on its Instagram page or stories. This is a great way to keep Samsonite’s customers engaged with the brand and offers an opportunity to share how their products are being used and the cool destinations they are being taken to. The company posts frequently to this page and their highlights include overviews of their luggage lines and how they actively participate in sustainability initiatives, which I think is great to see!

@samsoniteusa is another Instagram page by the brand, with over 43,500 followers. Their posts include showcasing their various luggage options in different locations around the world and several reels, giving tips to their customers on packing and traveling, in addition to highlighting the best features of their bags. Samsonite often shares stories asking questions to their followers, showing they prioritize customer engagement on their social media. Their stories answer frequently asked questions to help travelers make the right choice in travel gear.

Samsonite on Trustpilot

Samsonite has an unclaimed profile on Trustpilot, with 1.5/5 stars and an assigned “bad” rating by Trustpilot. This comes as a surprise for the popular luxury brand, as Samsonite is usually synonymous with great quality. Out of 412 reviews, an overwhelming majority (82%) are bad, and only a combined 11% as excellent or great. 

Many reviewers state issues with customer service (non-responsiveness) and trouble getting suitcases repaired that have manufacturing defects and still are under Samsonite’s warranty. Additionally, there seem to be many reviews stating issues with receiving their shipments on time or at all. While the customer service and warranty complaints can and should be reviewed by Samsonite, I think the shipping complaints could be due to factors outside of Samsonite’s control.

Is Samsonite a good luggage brand?

Despite the negative Trustpilot reviews (mainly around customer service), Samsonite remains a top luggage brand around the world. Their luggage is made from quality materials and the brand offers styles and colors to suit a wide variety of tastes. Samsonite Review Conclusion

We commend them on their commitment to sustainability and social compliance; we find that both are important factors when considering a luggage brand! 

However, one downside of Samsonite luggage is that it can be on the pricier side. While their products are built to last, you may spend a bit more upfront than you would with other brands. Another downside is some complaints regarding their customer service. However, if you're looking for quality luggage that will last, Samsonite is a great option and has plenty of products to suit different tastes and styles.

If Samsonite doesn't seem like the right brand for you and your travel needs, I think American Tourister and Tumi offer additional stylish options. Both brands are owned by Samsonite and provide plenty of luggage styles!
