NOMATIC Review

For anyone looking for a new travel backpack, you may have heard of NOMATIC. The brand is well known by digital nomads and tech-savvy adventurers for its durable backpacks that offer plenty of packing space and water-resistant material for wherever your adventures may lead you. I recently discovered the brand on Instagram and just had to check them out!

NOMATIC has several options for backpacks, including a camera bag to help photographers easily transport their gear, and they even have suitcases for when a backpack just isn't enough space. Travel Merak has reviewed a few of the most popular NOMATIC products - let’s dive into the details and see what makes this brand unique!

What is NOMATIC?

In 2014, Jon Richards and Jacob Durham created a unique wallet and launched their campaign for funding on Kickstarter. The initial success of the wallet led them to launch several more Kickstarter campaigns for various travel products and NOMATIC went from a small Kickstarter campaign to a brand that is recognized around the world. 

NOMATIC’s focus is on creating products that are not only made from the highest quality materials, but are also functional and versatile, giving you the ability to take them anywhere from the office to the most remote destinations around the world. 

While the brand is best known for its travel backpacks, they offer several additional products such as suitcases, camera bags, sling bags, and many coordinating accessories. NOMATIC even offers bundles of products for travelers looking to purchase multiple items - you can find NOMATIC bundles organized by style or by activity!

NOMATIC Travel Pack

Perhaps one of the most well known products from NOMATIC is the Travel Pack. This backpack is perfect to use as a daypack or for shorter weekend trips. The Travel Pack is made out of durable materials that are also water resistant, allowing you to keep your belongings dry throughout your travels. 

The Travel Pack features an expansion option, taking it from 20L to 30L of packing space. One feature I really like is the RFID safe pocket which keeps your passport and other important documents safe while traveling. The backpack is equipped with several additional pockets and a mesh divider, making it easy to keep all of your travel and tech items organized. 

This backpack also gives you the option to unzip the full perimeter of the bag, providing easier access to your items and making packing a breeze. The padded, adjustable straps provide comfort when carrying your Travel Pack and can be tucked away into the bag when not in use. The Travel Pack features a luggage handle pass through, which I think is a useful option - who wants to carry a heavy backpack when you can just rest it on your suitcase?! Overall, I love the sleek and minimalistic design of the Travel Pack and think it would make a great addition to your travel bag collection.

NOMATIC 40L Travel Bag

If the Travel Pack doesn’t provide you with the space you need to pack all your necessities, then the 40L Travel Bag will be the perfect option for you! Equipped with the same durable, water-resistant material as the Travel Pack, the 40L Travel Bag provides you with an additional 10L of packing space, which I think is plenty of room to pack for up to a week-long trip.

The Travel Bag is equipped with plenty of storage space for your clothes, but what’s really impressive is the amount of electronics that you can store safely in this bag. The backpack has a TSA ready laptop sleeve and an RFID safe pocket for valuables like your credit cards and passport. 

This bag allows you to easily change the way it's carried - a unique strap system provides the option to wear it as a backpack or use additional straps to carry the bag as a duffel. A pass through on the back of the bag means you can quickly put your Travel Bag on top of your suitcase for effortless maneuvering through airports. 

The Travel Bag even has a special compartment just for shoes, keeping them away from your clean clothes. What I really like about this backpack is that it comes with a laundry bag - a nice touch that you don’t typically see included with a backpack purchase. Overall, this bag is a winner in Travel Merak’s book!

NOMATIC Camera Bag

For professional photographers, or travelers with a passion for photography (like me!), a durable, safe camera bag is an absolute necessity when traveling with your camera gear. NOMATIC’s McKinnon Camera Backpack provides you with a customizable, durable camera bag to ensure your gear makes it to your destination safely and securely. 

Equipped with plenty of storage, this bag gives you 25L of packing space for all your cameras, chargers, and other tech gear. The dedicated laptop sleeve can accommodate a tablet or laptop up to 16”. The bag has an adjustable and removable ladder system to compartmentalize your bag in a variety of ways, depending on the gear you are carrying. The four internal mesh zippered compartments give you plenty of places to store charging cables, headphones, etc. 

As with other NOMATIC backpacks, the camera bag also comes with two magnetic bottle pockets on each side - these can double as tripod storage! A chest strap is a nice feature on this bag for extra support when carrying all that heavy camera gear over long distances. I think a great option for this backpack is to purchase the packing cubes that NOMATIC offers to further organize your camera and tech gear - if you are anything like me, the more organized the bag is, the better!

All of these options are great additions to your NOMATIC collection and can be used again and again, both in your NOMATIC backpacks and in other types of travel bags. 

NOMATIC Packing Cube

 The NOMATIC Packing Cube is a great purchase for travelers who like to keep their belongings organized. The packing cube has plenty of space to keep your clothes and other travel necessities and I especially like the mesh panel, so you can easily see what you have stored away in your cube.

NOMATIC Vacuum Bag

The NOMATIC Vacuum Bag makes packing more clothes in less space possible with it's unique, vacuum-less compression system. It's as simple as filling the bag with your clothes and pressing to compress the air out. A bonus feature of the vacuum bag is the water resistant material, making sure that any accidental spills in your suitcase don't ruin your clothes!

NOMATIC McKinnon Camera Tech Organizer

The NOMATIC McKinnon Camera Tech Organizer is the perfect accessory for digital nomads and professional photographers (and even us amateur photographers too)! The organizer has compartments to easily store your cameras, chargers, and other tech accessories, while the three elastic cords provide an easy way to keep your charging cables from getting lost.

NOMATIC Wallet

The NOMATIC wallet has a slim and sleek design to hold your credit cards or ID without taking up too much space. This wallet can hold between four and fourteen cards, which is impressive! The pull tab feature provides easy access to your cards (or cash). There is even space in this wallet for a key. The body of the wallet is made with medical grade elastic and NOMATIC has recently replaced the leather pull tabs with ecologically sourced synthetic nylon.

NOMATIC Trustpilot Review

NOMATIC has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Trustpilot, giving the brand an “excellent” rating on the site. This is an impressive rating and a significant number of customers (out of over 480 reviews) give the company positive feedback! 

As I combed through the various reviews, there was a common theme: customers raved about the quality and durability of NOMATIC products. Many reviews stated that the brand's products are not only made from great, quality materials but are also functional. I have yet to see another luggage brand with an excellent rating on Trustpilot, so consider me impressed by NOMATIC.

NOMATIC has a claimed profile, however they have not been the greatest at replying to negative reviews. At the time of my original review, NOMATIC had not replied to any negative reviews but I am happy to see things have changed. It seems that NOMATIC is taking negative reviews seriously and reaching out to customers to assist with any issues, and has even expanded their customer experience team to provide quicker replies to customer service inquiries.

Despite the negative reviews, I am happy to see that most customers love the brand!

@NOMATIC features posts from the brand with their various bag options, many of them in adventurous settings. NOMATIC also has a few highlights that go over their reward program, warranty, returns policy, and give more information on popular bags like their Travel Pack and 40L Travel Bag. 

With over 180,000 followers, NOMATIC seems to be increasing their following as they take a more active approach and post content more frequently. They have a good amount of customer engagement and even share stories where they are tagged! I like how NOMATIC does the occasional giveaway, such as a 2 night stay in Yosemite and tickets to Vid Summit, a cool experience for video content creators. 

NOMATIC Review Concluding Thoughts

While NOMATIC can be an expensive option, the brand’s quality and efficient design makes for a great option for digital nomads and leisure travelers alike. Their backpacks are designed to be durable and water-resistant while offering plenty of packing space for both short and long trips. I'm very impressed with the brand’s lifetime warranty and think this brand is a solid choice for travelers looking for a new backpack to hold their travel essentials and tech! I think NOMATIC is absolutely worth the cost for a long lasting and durable travel backpack to take you around the world.
